My name is Keith Case and I live in Nottingham. I have always walked for pleasure and thirty-one years ago on reaching forty I started doing it for exercise. I still walk frequently in Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and the Yorkshire Dales.
For many years we have spent the New Year holiday with friends in different cottages around the country. In 1997/1998 we stayed in the Forest of Dean and came across the start of Offa’s Dyke at Chepstow. It looked interesting so at Easter 1998 my friend Stuart and myself caught the train from Nottingham for four of the wettest days walking I can recall. Stuart did not join me again until a very long while later and then only for an odd day. I did another couple of days later in the year but it was not until the summer of 2000 that I plodded into Prestatyn after 180 miles.
Some months earlier we had bought a cottage in the Yorkshire Dales on the Coast-to-Coast Path so I decided to carry on round the coast to reach the start of the Coast to Coast Path at St Bees. This took another three years and it was not until summer 2004 that I set out across the Lake District to the Yorkshire Dales and our cottage. By April 2005 I had reached Robin Hood’s Bay at the end of the path and as there did not seem to be any point in stopping I carried on down the east coast.
I have currently (April 2019) made it as far as Bude on the north Cornwall coast on the South West Coast Path

Hello – I recently discovered your website and am enjoying your photos and self-deprecating sense of humour. I did this walk round England around 20 years ago (although going from Carlisle to Berwick-on-Tweed over the Cheviot ridge and then down the Northumbrian coast, which was one of the finest stretches of the walk). I recently (2018) reiterated the coastal section in South Cornwall at the end of a John o’Groats to Land’s End walk and found that there were many more ups and downs, much steeper and took much longer than in 1998. Must be something to do with global warming and sea level changes, I suppose ;). I will be interested to read how you get on in North Somerset between Minehead and Bristol – this was the most frustrating section of my walk, with footpaths not apparent on the ground (or not even on the map) and long detours inland necessary to cross rivers – but I hear that there is now a Somerset Coast Path being installed. If ths actually works, I would be interested to learn if it is feasible and, if so, go back and do it. Good luck for the rest of your walk.

Thanks for your comments. The England Coast Path was supposed to be complete by 2020 but there is little evidence of it. However, the part through Somerset from Minehead is complete so I amled to believe – we will see whether it is in reality.
